Who we are
pyroluxa is an independent editorial publication about Macau's casino hotels, edited by Ruth Camplin in Sheffield, United Kingdom. We are the controller for the personal data described here.
We are a small publication and not an incorporated company, so we have no company number or registered office to give you. We are not going to invent one. You can reach us at [email protected] and we answer within five working days.
What we collect
If you subscribe
- Your name, if you give one. It is optional.
- Your email address. Required, because it is the thing we send the edition to.
- The fact that you consented, and when.
- A notification subscription identifier generated by OneSignal if you allow browser notifications, plus tags recording the domain you subscribed from, the name you gave, and that the source was our form.
There is no phone field on this site. We do not ask for your number and we do not want it.
If you just read
- Standard server logs kept by our hosting provider: IP address, user agent, the page requested, and the time. This is ordinary web server operation and it happens before we are involved.
We do not run analytics, advertising pixels, or profiling of any kind, and we do not sell or rent anything to anybody.
Why, and on what lawful basis
- Sending you the edition, by email and by browser notification. Lawful basis: consent, UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a). You give it on the form and you can withdraw it at any time, which does not affect anything we sent lawfully before you withdrew.
- Answering an email you sent us. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f), namely replying to correspondence a person chose to start.
- Keeping the site up and secure. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f), namely operating and protecting the service. This covers the server logs.
Who else touches your data
Two kinds of recipient, both processors acting on our instructions:
- Our hosting provider, which serves these pages and keeps the server logs.
- OneSignal, Inc., a company in the United States, which delivers our email and browser notifications. If you subscribe, your email address, the tags described above and your notification subscription identifier are processed by OneSignal on our behalf. Their privacy policy is here.
We disclose personal data to nobody else, except where the law requires it.
International transfers
OneSignal, Inc. is based in the United States, so subscribing means your data leaves the United Kingdom. That transfer is made under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, together with the supplementary measures required under UK GDPR Chapter V. If you would like more detail on the safeguards, write to us and we will tell you what we have.
How long we keep it
- Subscription data: until you unsubscribe, and then we delete it. If the edition bounces repeatedly we remove you without being asked.
- Emails you send us: up to 24 months, so that we can keep track of corrections and what we changed.
- Server logs: the short retention period our hosting provider applies, typically measured in weeks rather than months.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify it if it is wrong.
- Erase it.
- Restrict or object to our processing, including anything based on legitimate interests.
- Portability: receive your data in a machine-readable form.
- Withdraw consent at any time, which for subscriptions is the relevant one. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or turn notifications off in your browser settings.
Email [email protected] and we will act within one month. There is no charge.
Complaints
If you think we have handled your data badly, please tell us first, because we would like the chance to fix it. You also have the right to complain to the UK supervisory authority:

Children
This site is about casino hotels and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we change this notice we will change the date at the top. If the change is significant and you are a subscriber, we will tell you in the edition.
